As the air begins to cool and mornings call for puffer jackets again, the signs of the changing season are everywhere. Winter sleeping bags return to the gear pile, the everyday beanie becomes essential again, and the mountains slowly prepare for snow.
Despite it only being the first few weeks of Autumn, it already feels like many parts of the natural world are preparing for winter. And it is no different here at Protect Our Winters Aotearoa.
Behind the scenes, our team is already preparing for the busy season ahead. We’re working on a lineup of events, campaigns and advocacy initiatives designed to make it easy for you, our community, to take meaningful climate action right here at home.
Our goal has always been simple: make it easier for outdoor people to stand up for the places they love.
That means creating accessible ways to get involved. We share our resources freely, make submissions on behalf of the outdoor community, and aim to keep our events free or low-cost so that anyone who cares about our mountains, coastlines and wild places can take part.
But doing this work takes support.
As a grassroots non-profit, POW Aotearoa relies on the backing of our partners and our members to keep the momentum going. Membership fees directly help us deliver community events, educational initiatives, and climate advocacy, while strengthening our ability to operate as a small organisation driven by passionate outdoor people.
Members also play another crucial role in POW, strengthening our voice.
When we advocate for climate solutions or make submissions on policy that impacts the outdoors, being able to represent a large and engaged membership matters. It shows decision-makers that we’re not just a small few speaking up, we’re a collective voice representing hundreds of people who care deeply about protecting Aotearoa’s natural places.
The stronger our membership, the harder we are to ignore. That’s why as we head into another year, we’re asking for your support.
Whether you’ve been a member before or are joining for the first time, becoming a POW member means turning your one voice into many. It’s collective action from a community of people who love the outdoors and want to see it thrive for generations to come.
The North Face Duffel Prize Draw:
Alongside supporting meaningful climate action, POW members receive access to a range of discounts and offers from our partner brands and businesses.
Plus this March, we’re adding a little extra incentive…
Anyone who joins as a new member or renews an expired membership during March 2026 will go into the draw to win a duffel bag from our friends at The North Face.
Membership costs are:
Individual: $30 | Couple: $50 | Family: $70 | Student: $20
You can see more details on membership benefits here.
If you care about protecting the places we ride, hike, climb and explore – becoming a member is one of the most direct ways to support the work we do.
The duffel bag prize draw winner will be announced at the start of April and the winner will be contacted directly.
And if you have questions or would like to get involved with POW in other ways, we’d love to hear from you.
