It’s World Glacier Day. Just one of a whole year designated International Year of Glaciers’ Preservation by the UN.
So prepare to get familiar with all things glaciers across 2025–not only about the rapid changes to the mountains we love, but as a global crisis–endangering drinking water, food production, energy supply, and the places we call home.
Here in Aotearoa we also have the unique opportunity to get familiar with our glaciers themselves. So over the next month, that’s exactly what we want you to do…
Your mission is to adventure to get your eyes on one of the 3000+ glaciers here in Aotearoa, snap a picture of it and send it to us! This picture will go into a citizen record on our website to be used in glacial studies, and you’ll be added to our pool to win some epic Icebreaker x POW prize packs (bonus entry if you document your adventure along the way and tag us):
